End of year survey 2012

1. What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?
Go to Finland (only Iceland missing now!). Go to Devon. Go to Berlin. Take a dressmaking course. And a counselling course. See Maria Mena live. “Properly” see Amanda Palmer live (OWS ninja gig doesn’t count). Win a Placebo concert ticket. Go stargazing. Make baby toys and clothes. Buy and use an overlocker! Buy and use a SAD lamp. Get a “proper” massage (15min ones at work don’t count). Go to a Postsecret event. Actually couchsurf (tho I was cheating cuz I already knew the host). Book an NYC trip that I know I’ll do all on my own from the start. 😀

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t make NY’s resolutions. Only NYC resolutions. 😀

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.                     JUST KIDDING!!! My Mon. 😀

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Don’t think so. 😕

5. What countries/cities did you visit?
Norway x4, Paris x4, Berlin, Torquay (well, Devon), Edinburgh, Vienna, Helsinki. London? *lol*

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
I would like to start selling stuff I make. I missed Christmas sales again this year and feel a bit silly. But generally I really quite liked 2012, tho it had moments of self-doubt. Having tons of free time certainly helped. Maybe I don’t need a purpose in life after all (last year’s wish), I just need to come to terms with not having one. Oh, but a Green Card would be nice. 😀

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I’m sure I’ll remember 25 July each year when I think of what to get Lille Ulv for his birthday. :))

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
There was nothing huge, but I made quite a lot of things and while the creation process was sometimes frustrating when things didn’t go right, looking at something pretty that you made is really quite rewarding.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not finishing the Sketchbook? :)) Not sure I’ll finish next year’s either.
Oh also, I shouldn’t have replied to that Charlie email. 8-| I’ll never learn.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really. Tho my headaches still suck, and my hip has been acting up since July. I’m getting old.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My Aeropress? *cough* Also bought two “emergency warm tops” before I went to Norway in November and I love them both to death. Oh, and the iPhone 5 of course! 😀 Even tho the on/off button is already being a temperamental bitch.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
(Most) New Yorkers after Sandy, cuz New Yorkers are aaawesome.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
I guess I can get quite worked up over corporate tax dodgers.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Travel. 13 trips altogether!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Placebo concerts, especially the one I won. 😀 Obama winning again, tho of course by far not as much as the first time round.

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
Wow, looking over the 2011 songs is like “that was over a year ago?????” Crazy how time flies. I’m not sure there will be “one” song. Maybe Laleh’s Some Die Young or Vårens Första Dag.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you…

i. happier or sadder?
Happier, definitely. Last year I was feeling a bit anxious about the impending unemployment, and I was still in that “must figure out what to do with my life” frame of mind. At some point during this year I have mellowed out about that and am coming to accept that (for now at least) it is perfectly acceptable to not find The Career and just potter along. This is a great relief and I am actually surprisingly content these days. It’s great! 😀

More or less the same.

iii. richer or poorer?
A little poorer, for while I’ve managed remarkably well considering how little I earned, I’ve still had to dip into my savings. Mostly cuz I travel so damn much! *lol*

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
I don’t think I can say travelling with 13 trips. :)) Drawing, sewing, reading. Placebo concerts. Bloody cancelled Helsinki concert! 😐

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Drinking Pepsi Max, wasting time online, wasting thoughts on my mother’s non-acceptance of my looks and lifestyle.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Being unsociable! 😀 Probably sewing and listening to loud music cuz Rita will be at her sister’s. :]

21. How will you be spending New Years?
Probably the same. Was considering going to Frankfurt to visit K&T, but it seems rather hassle-some as I’d have to get a 7am flight back if I use Avios. Meh.

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
Hellz no! Not that way anyway, tho I did “fall in love” with Laleh and AFP. They’re cute.

23. How many one night stands?
None.

24. What was your favourite TV program?
Alexandra introduced me to Jekyll, which I rather enjoyed. The only things I still watch on TV/iPlayer are Buzzcocks and HIGNFY. Exciting uh? 😀 There was also another season of True Blood, but it wasn’t as good as previous ones, tho still fun.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No.

26. What was the best book you read?
I did actually read a few books this year, but none particularly stand out. 😕 There was a new Thursday Next, tho I wasn’t that taken with it. Did I read the Cassie Clare ones this year? They were quite enjoyable. Oh! And I liked The Casual Vacancy too I think.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Amanda Fucking Palmer!!!!!!!!!! 😡 😡 😡 I’d been following her on Twitter for a while, but only got into her music after I got my Kickstarter album and oh. my. God. So obsessed. Also, Laleh, the cute pixie from Sweden! 😀 😡

28. What did you want and get?
I won that Placebo ticket that I never thought I’d win! 😀 I also got a helluvalot of Paris trips, oh and I wanted an overlocker and found a cheap one! I’m sure there are more things I wanted and got. :)) I am very spoilt. 😀

29. What did you want and not get?
A proper summer. 😐 For the umpteenth time in a row. Also no Green Card again of course.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
No idea. I went to the cinema once with the slore, what was that for? 😕

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
35 and I did nothing. I mean, went to work, the usual.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
😕 Shitloads of money? And definitely better weather. It really did drag me down at times.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
*yawn* n/a as usual (maybe I should just get rid of this question. but I’m too lazy to renumber all the ones after this, and if there is one missing people will be all “there is one missing!”)

34. What kept you sane?
I am the sanest person in the world. 😀 If I have to put something here tho I’ll say “10hr a week job”. Seriously, I should’ve gone part time a long time ago.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Freddie Mercury, Brian Molko… sometimes Michael Jackson. Also, P!nk is pretty droolable.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I got moderately worked up about the US elections again, tho not as much as in 2008.

37. Who did you miss?
Michael Jackson. I kinda don’t really miss my dad anymore, which is sad in its own way, but maybe for the best.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Alexandra, my Austrian couchsurfer. 😀 Oh, and I met Jimmy’s mom and now we’re emailing and she is hella cool! 😡

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
What’s that one about it being better to try and love what you have than to try and get what you love? That one. I mean, I didn’t learn it this year, but I achieved it.

41. Was 2012 a good year for you?
Yeah, it was pretty great apart from the lack of summer.

42. What were your favourite moments of the year?
Paris and Norway, 4 times each. 😀 And Placebo concerts of course.

43. What was your least favourite moment of the year?
Not sure. 😕 I didn’t enjoy when Alisdair was being a cunt again, but that’s fairly recent so in the big scheme of things it’s probably negligible. Tho it was quite an eye-opener.

44. What was your favourite month of 2012?
I’ll say June cuz it’s the only month I went to Paris and Norway. :))

45. What was your favourite song from 2012?
A tie between Laleh’s Vårens Första Dag and Amanda Palmer’s… ha, what is my favourite song off her album? 😕 Maybe Grown Man Cry. Also, P!nk’s new album is pretty kick ass, but also not sure which is my favourite.

46. What was your favourite record from 2012?
I don’t think I am able to choose between P!nk and AFP. They’re both amaaaaazing! 😡

47. How many concerts did you see in 2012?
Three Placebo, Maria Mena, Amanda Palmer, MIKA.

48. Did you have a favourite concert in 2012?
They were all pretty awesome. 😀 Like, of course Placebo are divine, but AFP was also amazing, and Maria Mena and Mika are so very cute!

49. Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2012?
Nope. 😀

50. Did you do a lot of drugs in 2012?
No.

51. Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
😕 I’ll get back to you on that! 😀 [edit later…] Still can’t think of anything.

52. What was the worst lie someone told you in 2012?
Oh, oh, can I be dramatic and say Charlie emailing to say “I miss you” but then never bothering to get in touch again ever? (| But I’m aware they’re not actually mutually exclusive so not necessarily a lie.

53. Did you treat somebody badly in 2012?
Not really, unless you count only calling my grandmother once every three months at best. 😐

54. Did somebody treat you badly in 2012?
Not unless you count the drunk Alisdair incident (which I should, really, since it was a textbook example). :))

55. How much money did you spend in 2012?
A bit more than I earned. 😛

56. What was your proudest moment of 2012?
Some of the sewing projects that turned out pretty good made me proud. 🙂 This question is kind of a repeat of the “biggest achievement” one further up, uh? Tho I guess technically you could achieve something big and not be proud of it…

57. If you could go back in time to any moment of 2012 and change something, what would it be?
Oh, that one’s easy! I would decide to see Placebo in Verona or Bucharest instead of Helsinki. :))

58. What are your plans for 2013?
Plans for 2012 were:
Find a job / decide what to do with my life. No idea actually. Probably for the best cuz who knows if I’ll manage to achieve anything at all. Don’t even know if I still have the travel plans I had, cuz… dunno. Headaches, and what on earth do I do with the flat, and countless other things.
So I did find a job, even tho it was a mini one, but it kept me afloat. Wow, those plans sound kinda depressing uh? So yeah the whole “big trip” thing is still very much on the backburner (even dismissing the headaches, it’s just so scary, tho Alex moving to Brighton in July would be the perfect occasion cuz she’s said she’d be happy to rent it furnished while she finds something else).
Plans for 2013:
I have none! Well, I do have some things I know will happen:
– P!nk live in April
– Paris with Cindy?
– Paris with Charlotte at some point
– NYC 6-15 June =P~
But apart from that there is little planned, except I really wanna try and have a handmade business running before Christmas season next year. :)) I know, I keep saying stuff along those lines… oh, but I have nearly $50 credit on my Zazzle account now! 😀
