End of year survey 2007…

Posted on December 24th, 2007 @ 13:20 in Uncategorized

Previously… 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
See Mika live, work for American Express, do translations for money, see Placebo in Germany (go to Regensburg), go to NYC and hate it, buy a flat, get an award at work, watch Six Feet Under…

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t make NY’s resolutions. (actually I was thinking just last night that one resolution for 2008 should be not to shed another tear for Charlie but I wouldn’t know if I could keep that so what’s the point)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I know of.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries/cities did you visit?
Paris (x2), Luxembourg (x2 I think), Mainz/Frankfurt (yet to come), NYC, Norway, Munich & Regensburg, Glasgow & Edinburgh, London (loads), Scunthorpe (lol).

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Mo’ money (which hopefully I will). 3 Paris visits, the way it should be. Contentedness?

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Don’t know. I’d say the day I started working for Amex but I don’t even remember that now. Sometime in Feb. *lol* I just don’t have dates etched upon my memory.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Um… :-S Getting a job? Buying a flat? Tho neither seem like much of an achievement. But they were difficult enough for me.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Charlie Charlie Charlie Charlie. *sigh* Well it wasn’t really my failure, just a huge big regret and fuckedupness. πŸ™

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not that I can remember. (tho I am very sick right now! but I doubt the flu counts)

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Maybe the flat, but maybe that will turn out to be a disaster. Apart from that I didn’t really buy anything major.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My MAP’s and her Jimmy’s maybe. Jeff’s probably since it’s not his fault I got annoyed. Tho he also sucked at times. And possibly my mum’s. Katja’s also been great.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Charlie’s of course. In more ways than I can ever put into words.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Travelling as always.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
NYC – even tho it was such a let down in the end. Finally seeing my MAP and her little dog again. Placebo of course. Also having Charlie – even tho that too ended in complete disaster. Oh, and seeing Thomas again in Feb.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
You know I’ve found in previous years that I tend to go “uh??? how is that supposed to remind me of that year?” after a while so probably none. If I have to list something, maybe Song to Say Goodbye, and Farin’s Am Ende der Sonne album. And Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you…

i. happier or sadder?
Sadder.

ii. thinner or fatter?
Fatter.

iii. richer or poorer?
Slightly richer. Well, if you count the flat already, heaps richer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Travelling – as always. And just generally living maybe. Creative stuff of course.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Drinking. Obsessing (and annoying people with it).

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Don’t know yet, depends how I feel. Either cleaning the flat or lying about all day. Maybe also working on Antje’s website.

21. How will you be spending New Years?
With Katja and Tobias. πŸ™‚ Dunno how tho.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Yeah. Twice or sth. With the same person. *lol*

23. How many one night stands?
None.

24. What was your favourite TV program?
House M.D., Six Feet Under, Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No. Sometimes I hate Charlie, but on average I don’t.

26. What was the best book you read?
I’ve actually read quite a few rather good books this year… if I had to recommend one in particular it would definitely be Ishmael Beah’s A Long Way Gone. A must read.
I also enjoyed Jasper Fforde latest instalment of the Thursday Next series (how could I not), and Miss Smilla’s Feeling for Snow by Peter HΓΈeg (I know, not exactly new, but hadn’t read it so far), and the Orson Scott Card books I’ve read so far (have now finished the 3rd one and have to admit, I didn’t expect to like it :wh ).
I’m not sure if I should include Harry Potter in this list… it’s always such a phenomenon that it’s kind of in a league of its own… and objectively I’m not sure if it compares with these others. Oh, and I was a bit disappointed by Hannibal Rising, tho it was still nice enough.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone and Mika. Mainly Amy tho.

28. What did you want and get?
:-S Can’t think of anything just now, sorry. A job I guess.
(I also had a Charlie all to myself for a week which I never would’ve dreamed of…)

29. What did you want and not get?
A green card? Lots of unattainable things. And Mon still doesn’t want to give me her little dog.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Don’t know if I’ve even been to the cinema a single time. 😐

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was in En Why Cee, bitches! And I turned 30. :(( :(( :((

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Unfathomable wealth. Not having some people treat me the way they did/do. (shall stick with this, same as last year)

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
*yawn* n/a as usual

34. What kept you sane?
Friends who listened to my whingeing and offered advice; music, travelling. The job? Smashing things sometimes – it does help! Also getting over yourself sometimes and listening to other people whinge and trying to concentrate on them instead.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Simon Amstell, Brian of course, Angelina still, a little. I’m sure there are more that made me think yum, but they escape me now. Mika does have cute dimples.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Don’t think anything did, really. I am stoic these days.

37. Who did you miss?
Monica. Thomas. Charlie. My dad.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Well I met lots of new people at work. Don’t know who my faves would be… I like many of them in different ways and for different reasons. Don’t know if any of them will be in my life long term tho.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
Oh God I suck at this. You’d think that I’ve learned something at least, what with the whole Charlie drama… and also maybe at work, about corporate machinations or whatever, and then the whole stupid property-buying shit… but really it all boils down to “life sucks / goes on” or sth like that. 😐

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Protect me from what I want, protect me protect me…. (hm same in 2004.. regressing again)

— different questionnaire —

41. Was 2007 a good year for you?
Average. Some things were really shit, some were nice.

42. What were your favourite moments of the year?
Always Placebo concerts. And seeing my MAP again. I guess I had some good times with Charlie too. And Paris with my mum in November was nice. I can’t remember if “getting the job” was a nice moment, it’s been so long now.. but maybe it was.

43. What was your least favourite moment of the year?
Oh there were plenty of those, too many to mention. (yes I know the meaning of “least” but really it’s all the same) I think it’d probably be a tie between some of those awful Charlie episodes in June, and some of the worst moments in NYC in September.

44. What was your favourite month of 2007?
Don’t know, it’s all a bit of a blur, don’t think any month stands out in particular. Maybe March? Things were not broken yet in March – I had a Charlie, and my boys were together again… 😐

45. What was your favourite song from in 2007?
Placebo – Song to Say Goodbye.

46. What was your favourite record from 2007?
Does it have to be released this year? Joss Stone’s latest one, and Mika maybe, and Meds still, and Wir Sind Helden’s latest one.

47. How many concerts did you see in 2007?
Um… 4 Placebo, 3 Mika? Something like that.

48. Did you have a favourite concert in 2007?
Placebo of course, but I don’t think any one stood out.

49. Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2007?
Yes.

50. Did you do a lot of drugs in 2007?
No.

51. Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
I wouldn’t say ashamed. Regret, sure.

52. What was the worst lie someone told you in 2007?
[insert sth Charlie-related here, don’t wanna think about it now]

53. Did you treat somebody badly in 2007?
Probably.

54. Did somebody treat you badly in 2007?
Yes.

55. How much money did you spend in 2007?
Not that much, still a lot of course.

56. What was your proudest moment of 2007?
Don’t think I had any proud moments. Maybe sth work-related.

57. If you could go back in time to any moment of 2007 and change something, what would it be?
stayawayfromcharliestayawayfromcharliestayawayfromcharlie. But of course I know that would’ve been impossible.
Oh yeah and maybe I would insist on speaking to the previous tenants of my soon-to-be-flat. That might have saved me a lot of sorrow.

58. What are your plans for 2008?
See Thomas, see Mon, go to Paris 3 times, go to NYC.
Finalise flat purchase and move I guess?
Possibly plan / go through with moving horsey from Lux to Brighton.
