A look back (on this blag)

Okay, quick while I am inspired to write something!

Joël mentioned MySpace CSS layouts on Mastodon, which led to a discussion of blogging and website layouts. I dug out some of my old layouts (they were still online! I didn’t upload anything for this 😅) and so while I’m here, let me share.

• There is a terrible page (used to be within a frame) showing my blog’s layout between February 2002 and June 2003. There are fifteen. In 18 months! These were all handcoded (tho some were just slight variations on previous ones).
• The “Clarissa Browser” is also still online and, unbelievably, mostly still works, even 22 years on! This tested the limits of my skills. Which haven’t evolved since. 😂
• In July 2003 I switched to Movable Type. That link goes to one of the layouts I had there (tho not the first one). Another MT layout here and the final one here. I’m amused by the “prettier vegetables!” in the header, obvs. referring to earlier, less pretty vegetables, which are now long lost to time.
• Finally, in January 2007 I moved to WordPress and I do not have screenshots of any layouts prior to this one. Nor does Archive.org. I do have a folder of old WP themes on my PC, and could potentially recreate some of them just for kicks, but I won’t. Tho browsing the image folders brings back memories…

Also, I tried to modify the “Elsewhere” links in this layout the other day and I have nooooo idea where to find them now. Oh, never mind, I looked again and found them. Now up to date(ish) for the first time in 10 years! 😃 Maybe I should update my Tumblr next! 😂
