He taught me HOPE
Wow. Lemme try to finally write that Obama post I’ve been meaning to write for ages (the draft I’ve just found is 2 months old exactly). Trying to quickly squeeze it in before I’m off to a scary election party, and we’ll hopefully know before the end of it, and then off to bed and I’ll definitely know when I wake up tomorrow.
I have been SO fascinated by this election for the past few months, and it’s been an incredible experience. I hadn’t ever been truly interested in a US election before – if I was, it was mainly because I’d (obviously) always want the Democrats to win, and/or because I wanted the Republican moron to lose.
But this time I’ve been really invested. It matters not just because Obama is the lesser of two evils, but because I really believe in what he stands for, and what electing him stands for for the American people. This goes way beyond the purely practical “well Obama would definitely be the wiser choice for the world at large”.
All the clichés that have been rehashed during his campaign actually resonate with me, despite my traditionally cynical leanings. The Audacity of Hope, Change We Can Believe In, Yes We Can… I can feel them. And I can relate to the American people feeling them, and it makes me immensely excited and emotional. This is HUGE!
So ja that was my last minute gushing entry, now I must get ready and be off, Obama FTW and all that!!!! (oh he better win or else…!!)
