Mini freezing Paris trip
Yes, I did make it to Paris, for the first time in over two years. It certainly was a weird trip, marked by the recent surge of Omicron, which meant I stayed outside as much as I could and since it was freeeeezing cold, this was sometimes challenging. But I managed.
I have to write these for completeness’s sake, but basically it’s all in the Twitter threads:
Day one
Day two
I’ll just add that I didn’t feel cycling has changed much since Covid, but then the cold probably meant more people in cars and fewer on bikes (still a fair few on bikes tho! I did not use public transport, but the buses I saw were also pretty full).
Oh, and I saw the following exhibs: Anselm Kiefer – Pour Paul Celan at the Grand Palais Éphémère (the reason I went, it was breathtakingly beautiful), l’Évolution en voie d’illumination at the Jardin des Plantes, which was cute, but too busy, le Paris de Proust at Carnavalet (also busy!) and “Homosexuels et lesbiennes dans l’Europe nazie” at the Mémorial de la Shoah.
I felt a tiny bit alienated at first, but did enjoy myself after a while, but also… I expected to be much more emotional about our reunion. I do still love Paris tho. Forever my mistress. ❤️
