For the Bible tells me so
I’ve just finished watching that documentary (which I downloaded cuz I couldn’t help myself) and it wasn’t quite what I expected. I thought I’d watch it feeling outraged and angry all the way through – but I actually cried throughout most of it. *heh*
It has an interesting approach – tho I’m not sure what its purpose is. [spoilers ahead if you are planning to watch it] It focuses on a few fundy families that end up with gay kids, and how they deal with it – they all accept them one way or another, tho some too late.
And it predictably picks apart the parts in the Bible that are anti-gay and puts them in context yada yada. (btw I didn’t know The West Wing used the letter to Laura Schlessinger! not sure how I feel about that either – write your own material?! of course it’s good to share this stuff with the wider public. then again the West Wing is unlikely to reach anyone who needs converting so stop stealing!! )
Yeah but apart from that…. it seems to be preaching to the choir (not literally at all, ha ha ha) and tho the stories of those families & the parents overcoming their bigotry were quite moving I can’t imagine this would convince any fundy homophobic Christians to abandon their fundy homophobic bigotry unless one of their kids turned out gay. 😕
Yeah so that was my review. I give it 7/10. (<– read this, is fun!!!)
PS Am also almost done reading Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali which has been really interesting on so many different levels – agreeing with her, disagreeing with her, being absolutely amazed by her, realizing only someone like her could get away with what she has said, sensing that she may be on a bit of a crusade against Islam but acknowledging she has somewhat of a point (mainly cuz I despise any religion to start with)… anyway, in a nutshell, she’s pretty cool. She down man! (ahem, sorry)
Yeah and next up… an entry about me. Maybe.

Ya, maybe you could link me to that doc. Might watch it some time. Do you watch such docs to try to understand these people? I’d just watch it to witness something I do not think I need to understand. It’s probably like it is with people that hate on black people, because they believe they have no soul. Why would I even try to understand such people?

Not sure why I wanted to watch it (considering I expected something a lot more antagonistic than it actually was). I don’t want to understand them, I never could, not just because of the homophobia but you know how I feel about militant religious people to start with.
Maybe purely for entertainment value, you know, some good ol’ “God those idiots!!!” outrage can be quite cleansing. *lol* Well and cuz of this thread.
