Previously... 2005, 2004, 2003. (I've had this thing for a while uh?)
1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Do a diploma, fly on a US airline, visit Washington, take anti-depressants, cut my hair really short, see Pink & Imogen Heap live, visit Copenhagen, and much much more.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make NY's resolutions.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Does Robert G. count? Oh, also a close friend of my parents. I barely knew him but he wrote me a cute and silly note when I was a kid and I was... a bit shaken by his untimely demise.
5. What countries/cities did you visit?
Paris (x3), Mainz/Frankfurt (x3), Luxembourg (x2), Strasbourg & Colmar, Washington D.C., NYC, Norway, Copenhagen. London again and again?
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
A job (not really). Lots of money. Positivity! *lol*
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I suck at dates. If this implies "still remembering in 10yrs time" - probably none.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Er. Doing that course? My distinction in graphic design maybe.
9. What was your biggest failure?
The whole squiZZ thing. It really annoys me that I just can't move on.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really, tho it does seem I went to the doctor quite a lot.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Plane tickets to the US.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Jimmy's and J's. (can I add Leona? lol)
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
*sigh* squi's probably more than ever before. Also some other friends. And of course, as always, my own. (not listing "current events" people here - otherwise I'll just end up saying "humanity")
14. Where did most of your money go?
Travelling.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
US trip with Charlie, Norway with Mon & Jimmy, and Placebo again and again. Also meeting Thomas - I can't believe that was less than a year ago!
16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
Pink - Runaway.
Imogen Heap - The Walk.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you...
i. happier or sadder?
happier. Last December was probably my lowest ever, and altho I'm rather panicky about job prospects and often sad about squi I'm generally not so bad at the moment.
ii. thinner or fatter?
Same.
iii. richer or poorer?
Earned next to nothing, spent loads, failed to win the lottery. You do the maths.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I'd say travelling, but I think I did quite well. Creative stuff, definitely. It just doesn't seem to work most of the time.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Getting upset over things I can't change.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Hopefully deep-cleaning the flat.
21. How will you be spending New Years?
Dunno yet.
22. Did you fall in love in 2006?
No.
23. How many one night stands?
None.
24. What was your favourite TV program?
House M.D., X-factor (lol), Are You Being Served.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.
26. What was the best book you read?
Hum. I read quite a lot of books this year but apparently none really stuck out. Maybe Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. (or was that last year?)
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Imogen Heap. Thanks Jimmy!
28. What did you want and get?
Er... drawing a blank here, sorry. Obviously all the trips I did, but does that count?
29. What did you want and not get?
That job at Sussex uni.
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Maybe Borat, but not sure.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Went to Beachy Head with Kate (and 29).
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Unfathomable wealth. Not having some people treat me the way they did/do.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
*yawn* n/a as usual
34. What kept you sane?
Friends who listened to my whingeing and offered advice; music, travelling / running away.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Brian, Angelina (even tho she's boring now), Bill (snigger).
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Dunno. Tho the various ongoing debate(s) about religion (all the Islam stuff, wearing the cross/veil, creationism et al) and all the ensuing hysteria have further reduced my tolerance of religious people.
37. Who did you miss?
Monica. Charlie. My dad.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Jeff? Not really met anyone new.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006.
Old dogs don't learn new tricks. (no that's not the lesson I learnt. then again, maybe it is...)
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
These voices trapped inside my head tell me to run before I'm dead. (Pink, Runaway)
41. Was 2006 a good year for you?
Yeah, not too bad.
42. What were your favourite moments of the year?
Most of the U.S. and Norway trips. The Placebo concerts. Many moments with squi & Tom in London. Ok, as an exercise in positivity I'll try to single out my actual favourite moments of each of the above...
US trip
1. the NYC Pink concert and the prelude to it (i.e. finding out we had tickets, arranging to meet the guy, being so fucking excited we were gonna see her again, and running back to the hotel to tell Charlie)
2. when we first discovered our funky 2nd hotel room in NYC and all the fooling around that ensued.
Norway trip
1. Some of the moments in the car:
Driving up, it was raining, Mon was sleeping, and Jimmy and I were chatting. That was very nice and had a strangely familiar comforting vibe to it.
Driving back, the beauty of the scenery, having Mon beside me, nice (if somewhat sad) music, and a completely free road.
2. Viewing the houses was sorta fun too. It was such an odd situation - Mon dragging these 2 foreigners along, her chatting to the owners and being all cute and Mon-like, with Jimmy and me hanging back and commenting on everything.
Placebo
1. the first time I heard Song to Say Goodbye at Koko. I rarely ever fall in love with a song on first listen, but this hit me straight away.
2. generally, the first 20mins or so of every concert. After that I get used to the awesomeness of the situation, so the first few songs are the most magical (but trust me, I am awed until the end!).
squi & Tom
Hm, impossible to choose here cuz mostly we didn't do anything special and my "wow, I love these 2 people so much and I'm so glad I can be here" moments were frequent but random.
43. What was your least favourite moment of the year?
Hmmm. I don't know. I've been fairly low a few times, but I can't seem to think of any specific moments. I did hate coming back from my big trips tho. Actually the whole travelling often sucked - planes, buses, people, stress, security issues, extreme exhaustion etc. I know, I'm never happy...
44. What was your favourite month of 2006?
Summer (lol).
45. What was your favourite song from 2006?
Placebo - Song to Say Goodbye.
Pink - Runaway.
46. What was your favourite record from 2006?
Placebo - Meds.
47. How many concerts did you see in 2006?
A dozen.
7 Placebo.
3 Pink.
Imogen Heap & Robbie Williams.
Oh and also WMAs but that wasn't a concert as such.
48. Did you have a favourite concert in 2006?
Placebo in Colmar was the most enjoyable performance (ever).
Pink in NYC cuz of the company and the location.
49. Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2006?
Yes.
50. Did you do a lot of drugs in 2006?
No.
51. Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
I wouldn't say ashamed. Regret yes.
52. What was the worst lie someone told you in 2006?
Alisdair: "this was going to be our trip."
53. Did you treat somebody badly in 2006?
Yes.
54. Did somebody treat you badly in 2006?
Yes.
55. How much money did you spend in 2006?
A lot.
56. What was your proudest moment of 2006?
Getting a distinction when I thought I'd just about pass. (and of course when Leona won... lol)
57. If you could go back in time to any moment of 2006 and change something, what would it be?
I would not delete all my posts on Simply.
58. What are your plans for 2007?
No plans as of yet. Roll on, year of uncertainty!
Addendum after reading the previous versions of this - in 2003 I listed J-Lo's All I Have as one of the "songs" and... it totally does not remind me of 2003. Oh well...
I am a shit parent... I'm so nostalgic for our moments; thank you so much for coming and for the forgiving me that you did in 2006. I can't wait to see you again in March!

Posted by: Clarissa on Mon December 18, 2006 at 16:01Weeeeeeeee.... will he have curls?? Can we pose in front of fat people under trees with their bums on display?
(Aye, I know you told me.. didn't know if it was confirmed or not.)
BOOM!
Posted by: Mel on Mon December 18, 2006 at 16:46Yes yes yes you must! You two are my "skinny friends to place in front of fat people" par excellence. We must scour London for fat people!
And ja, was not confirmed until recently.
(and yeah he'll have curls, tho not that long. but he will be much adorable anyway. and mine)
And not a single mention of Michael
Who's Bill?
Why don't you just delete Q2 from the survey since it's the same answer every year?
Posted by: The BML on Tue December 19, 2006 at 12:52I have deleted other questions but since this is #2... I really can't be bothered changing all the numbers that come after it.
Bill from Tokio Hotel.
Indeed @ Michael.
