Twitter is over bloody capacity!

How am I supposed to share that I have just ordered five books on Amazon? Ah, of course, I could write about it here. But then no one would read it.

Whinge, whinge, my blog has no readers, which is in large part because I have withdrawn from people, and/or people have withdrawn from me. I miss some of them. But I don’t think I’m gonna go crawling to them being all “oh please please, talk to me, include me in your life again”. If they can’t be bothered to make any effort themselves, I will assume they don’t care and just move on.

Aah, a nice bit of passive-aggression, that felt greatly liberating! So, those books.

This is actually a pre-order, comes out in September. Very excited, I loved Moab is my Washpot.

The Liar by Stephen Fry
I believe this is the only Fry fiction I haven’t read yet.

The Legacy by Katherine Webb
This is in the Top 20, just randomly bought it based on its description and reviews.

One Day by David Nichols
As above, this is actually the best selling book I haven’t read yet, so yeah.

Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde
OMG I love love love Jasper Fforde. I hope this will be good. I still deplore the end of the Thursday Next series, I could’ve lived my whole life in that universe!

Aaand I could use this to segue into a topic Katja suggested for me to write about, which is artificial/fictitious worlds. By the way, until very recently I mispronounced the word “segue” (in my head, I don’t think I’ve ever said it out loud). For more fun “wish I’d known this” facts see this humongous AskMefi thread, from which I also learnt how to properly tie my shoelaces. No, really.

Oh my God, upon rereading, that thread is amazing, there are so many gems in there. Like, for instance:

So there are!!!! I just checked!!! Like, wow. However, not everything in that thread is true, e.g.:

I was in my mid-30s when I discovered there’s a little arrow on the fuel gauge that indicates which side of the car the gas tank is located. [link]

I have checked every car I’ve come across since (and pics of my Lara) and have not found this to be true. So maybe it’s an American thing. Would definitely be useful tho!

Ah, but I was going to talk about artificial/fictitious worlds. I did ask Katja how she meant it and she said sth like “whatever way you like”. The way I like my artificial worlds is in my head. Well, I guess most artificial worlds exist only in people’s heads (but then there’s stuff like Second Life of course). I have sooo many little worlds in my head that I can hide in. Well, not that many, at this point in time I have… *counts* six to eight that I regularly “visit”. These change over time depending on my interests, though some stick around for a long time. My “oldest” ones have been with me on and off around 15 years now. All of my fictitious worlds are based on fictitious characters created by someone else (from books, films…) that take on their own lives in my head. Sometimes they feature real people too, but not at this point in time.

Then there are the fictitious universes that I just passively indulge in, by watching hours and hours of DVDs. This too is something I’ve done increasingly over the past… year or so, and I could try to draw some pseudo-psychological conclusions from it, but I won’t. Instead I will conclude this here blog entry, and watch another episode of Ally McBeal. Ha!
