Paris report
Gonna keep this short cuz been feeling kinda crappy and wanna bed, but need to do this for my records anyway.
So this trip was a bit of a disaster cuz I missed my flight (well, I missed my bus to LHR – the bus was at 3.00 and I woke up at 5.40 – oops!). I had to book a last minute train journey (well, that was what was cheapest at the time and I really couldn’t face Heathrow) – of course this was rather expensive to say the least.
Also meant I arrived a few hours later than planned (12:35 as opposed to the original 9:15ish), but the train trip itself was actually quite pleasant and I think I’m gonna stick with Eurostar from now on, even if generally it tends to be a bit more pricey than flights.
Friday I didn’t actually see that much, only one exhibition, Le Comble du Vide at the Institut Singer-Pollignac (part of St Anne mental hospital). This was interesting and I bought the catalogue. I also walked around St Anne itself, which was also interesting (never done that before, tho been to the museum quite a few times). I then walked around quite a lot and eventually decided to go to the Tour Montparnasse, where I hadn’t been in a while. You know, highest building, yes it’s higher than the Eiffel Tower. And not so many goddamn tourists.
I spent over an hour up there, it was pretty emotional. I love Paris so much and it’s soooo beautiful from above. I also called my mum from up there and spoke to her for a while, incl. announcing to her that I would kill myself in Paris, if and when I killed myself. Unfortunately jumping off the Tour Montparnasse seems quite difficult cuz that would be the most awesome ever. After that it was quite late so I really just went shopping and to the hotel and had dinner (even tho it said “it is strictly forbidden to eat in the room!”) and watched TV. And was online loads, and texted Toma loads.
Saturday I was feeling pretty shit so I spent most of the day in bed – besides it was raining anyway (sunny both other days). Then I went to the concert (hadn’t queued, so was on the side – not that far back but not being all wah-wah-Brian). This was nice, despite still feeling somewhat shit.
Sunday I also got up quite late, then spent most of the rest of the day cycling around and seeing various exhibitions:
– La Confusion des Sens at the Espace Louis Vuitton (the exhib itself was kinda meh, it was one of those “we’re going to put sth incomprehensible in front of you and you are supposed to have an epiphany” ones. however this was on the 7th floor of the Louis Vuitton building on the Champs, so rather nice view, and they had an almost 360 degree balcony).
– Mékong, Histoires des Hommes on the Jardin du Lux fence. This was alright. Basically this guy travelled up the Mekong river and took loads of pics, and it explained about the people there. After the fifth pic about rice farmers it’s kinda “I get the point.”
– Paris photographié au temps d’Haussmann (Louvre des Antiquaires), which was most interesting (I wrote my year abroad dissertation sort of about that).
Um, that was it. Also wanted to do Le Surréalisme dans la Photographie (Pompidou), but massive queue discouraged me.
Much random cycling around. I forgot to turn on Runkeeper at first then later thought “oh well, too late now”, and really regretted it cuz it’d be really interesting to see how many km I make on my Paris trips. So will have to do next time. Oh yeah, and what I forgot to mention was that I realised on Sunday that omg my return was probably not gonna be valid if I hadn’t flown out… and so it was. So I had to book another Eurostar, which was even more expensive than the first one, so in the end I spent so much on this trip that I could’ve actually flown to New York. *lol* But oh well, I’ve decided not to dwell on it.
Yeah that was it. Now I will copy over my photographs and drool.
PS Oh, this is post #1500, how cool!
PPS Wasn’t all that short in the end, uh? 😛
I’ve still not been to Paris 🙁 Have wanted to go for years. Def going to go in the new year though. Maybe you me and squizzly can go? 😀
You definitely should go!! 😡
Not sure if squi & I (& anyone) going is a good idea tho, our last attempt at going to Paris ended in a bit of a disaster. =))
