Meet Pete & Pete

Let me tell you the story of Pete & Pete (so named after a Nickelodeon show – not unlike myself, ha ha).

They are two tomato plants. I got them – I dare say they were forced upon me, despite my protests and my pleading – at Mandy’s birthday (she had dozens of seedlings she needed to get rid of). I duly took them home, certain in the knowledge that they would soon die, as happens to all my plants.

And indeed in the first days they did not fare too well. I had put them outside, and they were suffering greatly in the harsh winds that blow up here around my 3rd floor flat. So begrudgingly I took them in and placed them in the kitchen, in the small space next to the sink. Where they grew. And grew. Now it is time to repot them, and I have neither a larger pot, nor any peat – and most of all I have no room!!!

But they have grown on me (no pun intended), as noticed by the fact that I have started talking to them, so I shall have to hold on to them, and buy a bigger pot, and find peat, and find somewhere to put them where they cannot soil (no pun intended) my carpet.

I may have to start doing the dishes in the bathroom, and leave the kitchen sink to them. And hopefully in the end I will be rewarded with beautiful homegrown tomatoes, all named Pete! 😀 (I shall keep you posted)
