Oh ok then. One last CBB entry (honest!)

I hadn’t watched the first part of last night’s shows until just now. I’m actually rather disappointed in Davina McCall. I know she’s been accused of being way too nice to interviewees before (mainly BB contestants)… this was also said about the way she treated Jade last night, but upon watching it I thought she did pretty ok.

But then I saw her initial announcements and it was really all rather lame wasn’t it? “…because that’s what democracy is all about.. and d’you know what? So is Big Brother” – pfft, bullshit. I remember Davina debuting on MTV’s Most Wanted with Ray Cokes (whatever the fuck happened to him!?). She was luuurvely, and I was so excited when she moved on to bigger and better things. But she originally based her reputation on non-comformity. Not this crap. Meh. I disapprove.

As for the rest – oh I don’t know. So much has been said about it all that it just becomes fucking stale, dunnit? *ahem, excuse me* But I’ll add my $0.02 anyway.

Jade? Yes, I agree with the general consensus that she’s not inherently racist, just ignorant / thoughtless. But that’s not an excuse of course, not at all. Most racism is thoughtless and ignorant. That’s what it all boils down to isn’t it – “oh I didn’t mean that in a racial way at all, it just came out that way!” Oh ok, so I said “nigger”, but you know, that’s not what I meant at all – what I meant to say was “you annoy me.” Don’t know where the N word came from – it just slipped out! Ugh!!!

The class thing – yes of course there was a class issue. One of the contestants (sorry, I forget who – Dirk?) said sth like “Jade feels threatened by Shilpa, I dunno why” – how can you not see why!? Christ. This is a very British issue btw. It’s funny cuz I mentioned the term “sociolect” to Jeff the other day and he’d never heard it and was quite amused / impressed.

I also agree with what some people have said, in that Jo & Danielle are a lot more despicable than Jade. Yes Jade is stupid, prejudiced, uneducated, thoughtless, whatnot else. Not cool. But the two tagalongs are a lot lamer than her. These are the kind of people that encourage bullying in the 1st place (mainly because they’re afraid of being victims themselves). Fucking losers. If I got the choice of shouting at someone it would definitely be one of them.

[…] much much later (hey Kal!). Yeah, the end I think. Not much else to add, except perhaps a few words about the popular question “does this represent Britain”? Um, yes it does. That’s the main issue really. It’s what makes it interesting to all the sociologists etc. It’s also the main thing we should take away from it. This is what our society is based on. Be better than that. You primitive council-estate chavs. =))
