Bella Italia
I just got back from Rome. I have an extensive photo set over on Flickr, but my records demand a blog entry too. (yes they do! don’t question me lol)
Sooo I had a great time! I liked Rome! I am glad I went. In case anyone had missed the whole background, last time I was in Rome I was 11 and hated it. Thus I didn’t wanna go back for a very long time, but then eventually decided to give it another go. And I was not disappointed. I have to say, I don’t think I’d be able to love Rome like I love Paris (of course, no place is quite like Paris and never will be), but it has a lot of similarities. I like the history of it. I also like the beauty of it. It’s definitely (like Paris) a city you can just walk through and enjoy. Almost every street is beautiful, just the random houses and stuff. Also I found that it felt very familiar (even tho I’ve not been in Italy very often at all), it’s just a culture I can… relate to somehow?
I’m proud to say I walked the whole time, i.e. only took public transport to get in and out of town. Well, and Claudia drove me around on her motorino a lot. Which was also not as scary as I’d feared. I didn’t really have a plan, so am sure I missed out on some stuff. Some things I didn’t go to see are the Sistine Chapel (too many people) and the Colosseum and Forum (various reasons: closed, rain…). So may have to go back. Did see many churches, most of the well known places like Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna, Campo de’ Fiori etc. Also went to St Peter and to the amazing Capuchin crypt, and also the “Cemetery for non-Catholic foreigners” which has Shelley’s and Keats’ graves. The weather was also lovely most of the time. Much warmer than here!
Claudia took me out eating to yummy places. Once pasta (delicious spaghetti carbonara), once a steakhouse (not very Italian but very yum) and once pizza (which wasn’t that great). I didn’t really buy anything other than lots of postcards and a crucifix. *hehe* Oh, and some more stuff at the airport (that airport has way too many shops lol).
Aaand that’s it! 🙂
