Substitution

Category: Me about me | 8 Comments | Posted 13:34

So apparently whatever I do and like is a substitute for something else... Michael Jackson fandom, substance abuse, binge eating, squiZZ (and previous) obsessions, you name it - they're all things I indulge in because I lack something... something better, something real.

But the question is, how will I know when I've found the real thing!? The one that isn't a substitute for anything? What defines that? Doesn't it all go round in circles - we're perpetually chasing something that we can't ever attain, so we fill the void with whatever replacements we can get hold of. Then we die.

What a bunch of shit.

I hate people with that small minded view. So... ANYTHING we like to extremes is a substitute?

So, the whole word lacks in something. Well what a shame, we're all fucked.

Oh fuck off.

>> we're all fucked.

Well ja. It all sucks, didn't you know?

No it doesn't, that's my point. People are so cynical, everything always has to mean something. Sometimes you like a musician because *shock horror* you're a fan of his music.

Talk about ignoring the most probable explanation and going for the furthest out ones. I think the ones who do THAT are more lacking than they like to make US out to be.

Yeah but there is a difference between liking a musician and being completely fanatical about him, spending thousands to follow him around the world and wasting hours online (or otherwise) talking about him.

I'm only speaking for myself. All the things I've mentioned I do/did to extremes. It's what an addictive personality is all about.

And the real point of my entry was a different (and even more cynical) one. I don't believe in that substitute crap either - but only because I believe there is no "real thing", because life's a fucking bitch and our existence is utterly pointless.

And don't contradict me. Just let me wallow in my self-pity ok?

I agree there's a difference, I just don't see how it automatically follows that you take it to that more extreme level to replace sth else you are supposedly lacking.

I never said YOU were one of the ones who believe it's a substitute, I actually didn't think you did. I was trying to be supportive, in that it's evidently pissing you off that other ppl say that, so I was trying to show that I don't believe it is either.

*lol* @ "don't contradict me" - first of all, when did I? and secondly, ppl ARE entitled to their own opinions you know. Stop being so defensive.
