In Defence of Madonna

Category: Opinionated | 10 Comments | Posted 1:34

It seems to be fashionable these days among music critic wannabes to bash Madonna. I'm not a music critic wannabe, therefore I'd like to state that I think Madonna's cool. I don't agree with everything she's done, but that's very rare for any artist, and I rather respect her for her career over the decades, including the controversial or stupid bits (I didn't like her Sex book much, but that didn't make me despise her for the rest of her life).

And while we're on the subject, I hate people who worship any stupid two-hit-newcomers and call them "megastar" and scoff at artists who've sold records over many decades, calling them "has beens" and such. Blech. :-& Which reminds me, I wanted to write something about music piracy and the music industry and users and artists and pros and cons and stuff.

Tomorrow. Now visit the ChitChat Board. *hehe*

I agree with you. I also like Madonna. Don't like everything she's done, but all in all I like her and I like listening to her music. Especially the Ray of Light album... hmmm... was it called Ray of Light? Not sure anymore... ;)

Madonna is alright, but her desperate attempts to draw attention are really things she'd not need if she was that icon still. The biz has just gone down the river and even the big stars sell themselves on the street now.

But I like Madonna for what she sometimes says, her interviews are always pretty good. Her "art" esp. her vocals are not my thing, even though some songs are nice.

LOL well you can call them desperate but that's a personal opinion. Madonna has always provoked, even at the height of her success (Like A Prayer, Sex, her tours etc).
I don't think she really needs to sell herself, she's rich enough to not bother.

Weird how everyone criticised her for the kissing at the MTV VMAs, but not Britney and Xtina.

selling oneself doesn't have to do much with money. it's more about popularity, attention, your "Marktwert", i think. that's why also mj's desperate enough to start a new fashion series instead of releasing an album or just retiring after having left his most creative phases behind himself. madonna would cry her eyes out if nobody cared about her anymore and if she was left back with her mountain of money she will never be able to spend all at once.
