Come with me (and Google Earth)...

... on a trip down memory lane! :D

You see, the only thing that compensates for Brighton being disappointingly low resolution on Google Earth is the fact that Luxembourg is delightfully clear. And because I've recently been obsessed with it again (Google Earth, not Luxembourg), I thought I'd be geeky and do a Placemark-biography entry! 8-} [obviously you need to have Google Earth installed for this. goes without saying]

So without further ado... let's get started!!

This is where I was born! :D
The maternity building of one of our hospitals. Took me bloody ages to find it too lol.

The first place I remember living
There was a house before that, but we moved when I was like 2 or sth. I don't even know the address. This place was great. Many kids, we all knew each other, lots of woods to explore, fairly safe immediate environments... loved it.

My first school
The private catholic one. Went there for a year & one term. Traumatic experience... lol (no no it was ok)

The second House
Lived there 1984-1994 I believe? :-? Many many memories from there. My room was yellow, with Sarah Kay wallpaper. My best friend lived just across the road, and from the back yard you went straight to a playground, which led to another playground etc. Great stuff.

My mum's parents' house
This place had the most amazing garden (tho it wasn't as overgrown as it is now / on the pic). It was huge. And there were loads of us (grandchildren), tho I was the one who was there most regularly I guess. My grandparents built this house in the 60es and sold it in 1983 or so.

My other grandparents' (father's mum) place
The only place I ever knew them to live until they moved into a retirement home. I had many many happy times there too (since I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, as my mum was a single mother working full time).
This is also the place where my father lived later and that he turned into this.

Secondary School
Spent 7 years of my life there eh... and then another year later when I went back to teach. :P

The Riding School
Yes, with the evil ones and all. Aah but for all the time I've spent there...
God, looking at it now from Google Earth I wonder how they managed to keep that premium location over all these years (it's 2mins from the airport).

Later Riding Place
where I had my Prince for a while. I'm pretty sure he must be on one of those pastures on the pic, but I can't find him. :-(

Okay, that's sort of the end.. but I'll add one more place, which is the one that inspired this entry to start with...

Fish Pond at Parc de Merl
I used to go there with my grandad (after they'd moved to a flat from big house). My nan would defreeze some bread just for the occasion, and we'd take big bread crumbs in a plastic bag and feed the fish (they were grotesquely obese - we weren't the only ones feeding them hehe). Those were very precious moments, soppy as it sounds. I was around 8-10 then.
One day I randomly plucked a bit of reed off a nearby stem and threw that in the water... and one of the big fat greedy fish jumped at it right away and gulped it down. I felt soooo guilty!!! Obviously that had been my original intention but I felt bad immediately afterwards, and still do, more than 20 years on. :)) I hope it was at least somewhat tasty. :-s

People say...

Cool entry! Much more fun reading this and exploring your childhood (ok that sounded freaky) than doing homework. Heheh. Btw, Lux is so tiiiiny (in a cute way)!

Yes I know @ tiny. I was acutely aware of this while doing this entry hehe. It has its good sides

What a great idea! it doesn't mean anything to me but i guess it's like looking through other people's photographs, I love finding out stuff like that.

I can't see the links just now so I'll look again once I get to work and use my PC there. If that don't work I shall come back to you whining!

Posted by: BML on Wed November 1, 2006 at 14:05

You should install it stagiaire
It's very sexy

Posted by: Clarissa on Wed November 1, 2006 at 16:52

Noooo, I don't like stalker software.

Posted by: stagiaire on Wed November 1, 2006 at 19:08

Pfft. Don't be so paranoid.

Posted by: Clarissa on Wed November 1, 2006 at 19:40

Pff...
Post the pictures!

Posted by: stagiaire on Wed November 1, 2006 at 23:56

Screenshots are no fun.
It's the interconnectivity that does it.
(and the sexiness of Google Earth)

Who allowed you to intrude into privacy of other people, by publishing those really awful pics - even if it is that of your ownn father, who was probably ill at that time and would rather have needed your help instead of that pathologic paranoia of yours.

You are especially childish for your age. Hee, hee.

I hear my poor ill father has complained to Mimchen too.

There is no identifying information on this blog, not even in the WHOIS, so you needn't worry really.

[I'd say more but then poor Mimchen would get the fallout again. ]

How come you can see houses and stuff in Lux and not in Norway?

Posted by: Monica on Fri November 3, 2006 at 16:09

cuz Lux is the r0xx0r
(but yeah, I don't really know why Lux has such high resolution. maybe someone at Google likes it?)

Posted by: Clarissa on Fri November 3, 2006 at 16:38

no identifying information?

Ad how is it possible that so many people in Luxembourg know who Narcissa is that even I heard about it? Might be you told them?

You father the wanker

So Narcissa Michaela Jackson has installed Google Earth? Why that? To intrude people's privacy?

Posted by: stagiaire on Sat November 4, 2006 at 17:44

Of course there are Lux people that know about my blog. But those people know how I feel about all of this anyway. Some - gasp - have even seen (and smelled!) the flat first hand.
If other people should have found out about it... well that would just be so unfortunate wouldn't it.

@ stagiaire (he likely hasn't tho).
