Posted by: Mel on Wed July 5, 2006 at 23:39Seriously, WHYYYY with Chinese/Russian hamsters is the skinny one always the bitch?!
In FACT... now I think about it... my fat guinea pig is the friendly one. The old finches we used to have the fat one was the friendly one. My sis' old Russian hamsts, Moscow was the fat/friendly one, Gorki was a little shit.
How odd. Maybe there is something to this whole 'fat' thing after all.
Posted by: The BML on Wed July 5, 2006 at 23:54He's cute uh? @ Mel.
BML - They are probably related. One of my theories was that the 'alpha male', as the dominant one who protects etc, has to be fitter, and also the stress caused by being more attentive makes him gain less weight (the alpha of a horse herd is also always quite thin). And logically the most aggressive one would be the alpha male.
Tom had a theory today about... um, the other one gobbling down food cuz he was afraid of not getting any. His pouches are also always really full.
There's gotta be some correlation. And I bet you can find out online what it is, if you're bothered enough to research it. (I'm not)
Thank you for not including the spit up photos
Posted by: Tay on Thu July 6, 2006 at 10:15lol hasn't mentioning them kinda defeated the whole purpose of not showing them?
Posted by: Clarissa on Thu July 6, 2006 at 10:17Ohh that hamster is too cute.. i want a hamster too
Posted by: dudie on Thu July 6, 2006 at 10:47Animals as well as human beings eat more when they have stress. And being the... er... beta male causes them to be stressed (at least while the alpha male is present). That's the reason why the beta male is the fat one.
Posted by: Katja on Thu July 6, 2006 at 14:34I love Katja
Posted by: Clarissa on Thu July 6, 2006 at 15:17the skinny Jar is the best TubTub is just lazy and idle
I'm thinking he needs an exercise ball to burn off all that extra stress-eating since he doesn't like the wheel anymore and tends to lie around whenever he's given the chance.
